No War but the Class War
War. What do you know about it? Is it the pursuit of national safety? The heroic attempt by states to defend their god-given land? The hunt for extremist groups who threaten the lives of innocents all over the world? Are veterans ought to be respected for their service? Are citizens caught in the crossfire an unfortunate mishap that cannot be avoided? The answer to all these questions is no. But what is the cause of such bloody and life-ruining conflicts?
On the night after the twin towers attack on 9/11, horror and shock struck the American people; their leaders gathered around to try and figure out who made the attacks, why, and how should the US government respond. Shortly after, the pentagon's intelligence discovered that a small terrorist group mainly based in Afghanistan named al-Qaida carried out these attacks. On the same night, that info came to light, the pentagon received a memo from the deputy secretary of state. The urgent memo asked the pentagon not to look into Afghanistan but instead shift the focus to another Middle Eastern country, Iraq. The pentagon's intelligence was confused, Iraq is more than 2000km away from Afghanistan, and the evidence clearly pointed at al-Qaida. The president at the time, George bush gathered his men for a meeting in his forest retreat near Washington to discuss a plan of retaliation against Afghanistan; a man of the name Paul Wolfowitz interjected the discussion and said, "When It comes to global terrorism, Saddam is actually the head of the snake", promptly shifting the focus of the president to Iraq, as it turns out, Paul was also behind the urgent memo sent to the pentagon. But why was he so hell-bent on shifting focus to Iraq?
Wolfowitz explained to Bush a few days later his position. He explained how the population of Iraq is fragmented in both geographic and political ways, coupled with the fact that the country is bordered from the south by US allies, making a case for privatization of its rich oil fields and isolation from the capital Baghdad will be the first step. Bush replied by saying, "Why did you not bring this up in the meeting?". When Bush finally decided to sack and invade Iraq, mainstream US media ran constant defense for that decision, shaping the opinion of the population through a relentless propaganda campaign through a process the linguist Noam Chomsky dubbed "Manufacturing consent." The media campaign focused on how evil Saddam Hussain was, how his help to extremists and his harboring of weapons of mass destruction threatened Americans safety and freedom. Of course, there were no such weapons, and Saddam, while unhinged in his own right, had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks.
By October 10th, 2002, the US Congress authorized the use of force against the country of Iraq. 8 years later, more than one million Iraqis were dead, millions more traumatized, and a rise in Iraqi fundamentalist extremist groups filled the power vacuum created by the war, further perpetuating the cycle of violence and chaos. This story is repeated over and over throughout capitalism's history. Whether it be Iraq, the Philippines, Afghanistan, Chile, Libya, Cuba, or Yemen. Global capital's tendency to expand and monopolies the world is the essence of imperialism. To say that it's just oil, while true since the first thing the US controlled in the Iraq invasion was its energy sector. However, it is not a complete answer. It's about establishing global hegemony by the west, and control, not only of the material riches of the world but a control of the hearts and minds of people through shock and awe, shaping a cultural acceptance of capitalist/neoliberal ideologue, crushing any opposing movements through coups and assassinations, further prolonging the idea of apathy instilled in people, leading to acceptance of the rule of capital.

Right now, the United States constitutes the global power, stationing military bases all over the world, with more than 30,000 US troops stationing in the Arabian Gulf alone as part of an allyship agreement to maintain such global capital control. What about the rest of the Arab world, who weren't invited to such an alliance? They get bombed, of course. In the last two decades alone, the United States, with the help of their regional allies, dropped on average 46 bombs a day, a significant number of which targeted the Middle East. These measures are remnants of the cold war days. Still, following the fall of the Soviet Union, the US could've scaled back its war efforts. However, war proved to be too profitable for the pentagon, and control was too beneficial for Washington.
Capitalism based on free-market competition is long gone and now is replaced by global monopolistic endeavors by global powers influenced by big business. Unlike individuals who use their money to exchange it for goods that satisfy human wants, companies use labor power bought by money to generate even more money in an infinite cycle that operates in a finite environment. An advanced stage of this cycle leads to decreasing profits in a national felid; capital fights for its profits parasitically by infiltrating international felids, seeking to satisfy inhumane desires for more capital. A country like Britain destroys Indian manufacturers to export their own manufacturing to halt any improvements in living standards in India for a steady stream of profits would make any rational person anti-capitalist. Colonialism, neocolonialism, or imperialism in its militant or financial form is the highest stage of capitalism.
